UGC NET results to be declared soon

Nearly five lakh students who appeared for the National Eligibility Test (NET) held by the CBSE in December 2014 are still waiting for their results. The nationwide entrance exam for college lecturer posts and junior research fellowships is held in centres across the country in 100 subjects in two slots, in December and June.

This is the first year the University Grants Commission has handed over the examination procedure to the CBSE, and the first time the results – which are generally announced around April – have been so delayed. The delay has led to a lot of confusion amongst aspirants, which have been exacerbated by ambiguous responses by the CBSE authorities.

“We have been calling the concerned authorities for the past several days but we have not received any information on the date of result announcement,” said Sunil Kumar Sharma, an aspirant from Mumbai.

Several others like Sunil are confused about the future course of action, especially after the CBSE released application forms for the June 2015 slot. Since the last date to fill the online application for the June slot is May 15, many students are now compelled to pay a form fee of Rs 600 for the same. “I had appeared for the December 2014 NET exam, but I still had to fill the form for June 2015 because there is hardly any time left for the last date and I am worried as to what will happen if the results still don’t come or the website crashes,” said Prachi Gosavi, a student from Mumbai.

The CBSE website was temporarily unavailable for around a week and has no notice regarding the status of results whatsoever. While the coordinator of examinations of CBSE NET was unavailable for comment, authorities at the helpline told Mirror that the result will be out anytime after the May 15. “The work of uploading the results is in progress and we shall put it up on the website soon,” said an official.

Students have been airing their grievances on online forums and Facebook groups. Many are demanding an extension in the deadline for the June application date.
