Rabindra Bharati University, RBU Kolkata has invited application for admission to PhD Courses in the subjects under the Faculty of Art, Fine Arts and Visual Arts in 2017-18 sessions as per University Grants Commission.

PhD Eligibility Criteria

Applicants having Master’s degree with 55% marks (50% for SC/ST) or its equivalent grade from any UGC recognized University in India or an equivalent degree from a recognized foreign University preceded by graduation with Honours or its equivalent degree in the concerned or allied subject are eligible to apply for admission to the PhD Program of study in his/her disciplinary subject of study or in a subject of allied discipline or in an inter disciplinary subject.

Rabindra Bharati University PhD Selection Procedure

The applicants will have to appear for a written entrance test, and if qualified, have to appear for an interview to be conducted by the Department or School or Centre concerned.

However, the students who have qualified/cleared in the M.Phil, NET/SET/GATE/UGC (JRF)/CSIR (JRF) or Teacher Fellowship Holder will be exempted from appearing in the written entrance test to be conducted by the University.

Such applicants will have to appear in the interview.

Written Entrance Test

Written entrance test and interview will be taken for selection of eligible applicants for admission to Ph.D. Programs.

  1. Written entrance test will be of 100 marks
  2. Total duration of the test will be 3 (three hours)
  3. Written entrance test will have two halves of 50 marks each

First half will be common to all applicants belonging to Faculty of Arts and Visual Arts.

Similarly, applicants belonging to the Faculty of Fine Arts will have first half common for all applicants.

This half will include Comprehension Test, Qualitative/Quantitative/Reasoning Aptitude etc. This half will be known as Common Research Aptitude Test.

The second half will be subject oriented.

It will include Objective Type Questions (10 marks), Short Answer Type Questions (20 marks) and Essay writing on given topic or areas of interest of the applicant etc (within 300 words) (20 marks).

In order to qualify for the Interview, each applicant will be required to score at least 50% (45% for SC/ST applicants) marks (marks of the 1st half and 2nd half taken together) out of 100 marks.

Applicants can apply online on the website www.rbu.ac.in. The applicants are advised to follow the instructions while filling up the Application Forms online:

In order to apply online, applicants have to register themselves first. Applicants must provide valid email id & mobile number else the registration process will not be completed. After registration, the password will be sent to the registered e-mail id and mobile number.

After successful login, the applicant will be required to select the course(s) he/she may wish to apply and check the eligible first. Once found eligible he/she can fill up rest of the Admission Form.

The applications, once applied by the Applicant cannot be canceled or altered and the amount paid for the same by the Applicant is not refundable.

Payment Mode

Step.1: The Applicant will be asked to click on the Payment Button. Once it is clicked on the Payment Button, the applicant will be redirected to the Payment Gateway for payment of requisite Application Processing Fees.

Step.2: Any one of the following 3(three) methods for payment of Application Processing Fees can be opted:

  1. Online payment through Net Banking or Credit Cards or Debit Cards of any bank
  2. Through Cash/Challan: A pay-in-slip will have to be generated. The applicant can submit the fees through Cash/Challan in any of the branches of Allahabad Bank after 24 hours of printing the auto-generated Cash/ Challan
  3. Through NEFT: Pay-in-slip will have to be generated. The applicant can submit the fees through NEFT in any branch of the Bank in which he/she has his/her Bank Account. Example: If a applicant has bank account in State Bank of India (SBI) he/she can submit the fees through NEFT in any branches of the State Bank of India (SBI)

Application Processing Fees

General: Rs.250/- + additional charge of Bank.

SC/ST Applicants: Rs.150/- + additional charge of Bank.

Online application will be available in the website from: September 08th to September 20th 2017 (upto 4.00 p.m.).

Last date for online payment through admission getaway: September 21st 2017 (upto 4.00 p.m.)

Publication of provisional eligibility list of applicants selected for written entrance test and NET/ Applicants exempted from written Entrance test on the University website: October 13th 2017

Downloading of Admit Cards: October 17th to October 25th 2017

Date of Written Entrance Test: October 28th 2017 from 12:00 noon onwards

Publication of result of Written Entrance Test on the website: November 10th 2017 (after 4: 00 p.m.)

Prospective Dates of Viva Voce: November 14th to November 15th 2017 (specific dates for each subject will be notified in due course)

Result of Viva Voce (Publication of 1st Merit) on the website: November 20th 2017 (after 4: 00 p.m.)

Online Provisional Admission of 1st Merit List: 22nd & 23rd November 2017

Confirmation of Admission: November 27th 2017

Commencement of PhD Course Work Classes: December 01st 2017
