The dilemma over conducting of SET (State Eligibility Test) still continues in Chhattisgarh. University Grants Commission (UGC) has not yet permitted Chhattisgarh Vyapam to conduct SET exam in the state. UGC said it would hold a proper inspection before giving any permission regarding the exam.
Vyapam has been set up in many states to conduct the exam but UGC’s nod is still awaited by some of them. However, Chhattisgarh Vyapam has conducted SET exam once so students are still hoping positively.
According to sources, it has been reported that there is still a span of 2 years to conduct the exam. This delay is supposedly due to non-availability of professors. This exam was supposed to be held in 2015 but there is a lack of NET or SET qualified professors in private and government colleges.
In Chhattisgarh, more than half of total seats are vacant for assistant professors. There should be a total of 3142 Assistant Professors in 214 government colleges but as of now, only 1783 professors are teaching as rest of the seats are not functioning. However, the recruitment process is being done by PCA but still it is not up to the mark. The condition is also same for private college. There is still a scarcity of professors in 20 universities and 458 private colleges.
For the upcoming exam, education department also kept the proposal for two additional subjects (Management and Home Science) with existing 18 subjects. And, now the exam will be conducted on the basis of the 20 subjects.
But to conduct the exam, Vyapam seeks the approval of UGC. However, Vyapam has requested several times for the approval but the decision is still pending.
