PhD holders from the University of Mysore, have urged the State government to relax guidelines regarding candidates who can apply for the post of assistant professors in Government First Grade colleges of the State.
As per the recent notification to fill the posts, the State has decided to hold a competitive examination. One of the conditions is that candidates should either clear National Eligibility Test (NET) or Karnataka State Eligibility Test (KSET).
The notification has barred candidates who have completed PhD without course work from applying, which should be relaxed, said Krishnamurthy, a PhD holder of the varsity, at a press meet, here on Monday.
He said, the State government should follow the Kerala model, where the government had provided exemption for such candidates, to appear for the examination, for those who have completed their doctoral prior to 2009.
Course work for PhD was made mandatory by UGC recently. Now, making it mandatory for candidates who have completed their doctoral thesis, has caused problems to several candidates apply for government jobs, he said.
