Though PhD entrance test has been mandatory for MPhil degree holders wishing to pursue doctoral research degree courses offered by Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV), they are likely to get exemption from course work.
The DAVV signaled at giving relief to the MPhil pass outs from PhD course work if they cleared the entrance test.
“The subjects taught during course work of PhD are also taught in MPhil programmes. So, we may give exemption to MPhil degree holders from PhD course work,” said Ganesh Kawadia, chairman of PhD cell, DAVV.
He however said that the MPhil degree holders who want to pursue PhD programmes will have to face PhD entrance test.
“We will push for a proposal to exempt MPhil degree holders, who cleared the PhD entrance test, from six-month course work after the test is held,” he added. The test is to be conducted on September 1.
Much to disappointment of NET, GATE and MPhil pass candidates, the amended version of PhD Ordinance robbed them of the privilege to have exemption from entrance test for doctoral research degree programme.
Till last year, they were exempted from the PhD entrance test and the course work but this year they have to write the test.
There is clear mention in the amended ordinance that PhD course work is mandatory for NET, GATE and MPhil pass candidates as well. owever, the ordinance is silent over coursework for NET, GATE and MPhil pass candidates.
Kawadia said that he would propose for exemption from course work to only MPhil degree holders as they have already studied the subjects taught during course work. “NET and GATE qualifiers will have to undergo the course work,” he added.
